Therefore, the timing of the first MEG response component that shows sensitivity to word frequency in a picture naming task places an upper bound on the timing of word form retrieval. A similar approach has been successfully applied in MEG studies of word recognition (see Pylkkänen & Marantz, 2003 for review).
